All matter has its own resonant frequency, it is its attribute. The problem occurs when the excitation force frequency is equal to the natural resonant frequency. At this coincidence even small excitation forces activate high response. An example is, if electric motor rpm is equal to the natural resonant frequency. In this case even a small unbalance in the system activates high response and generates high vibration. 
In order to eliminate this problem, first of all we have to identify it and specify the natural resonant frequency.  The most frequently used methods of specifying the natural frequency: 
- start up/run down test
- Bump Test
Solution of resonant phenomena:
  • exciting force frequency change
  • rotational speed change, if it s possible
  • natural frequency change – debugging, base attributes and mounting method change, etc.
  • if there is no other possibility, it is necessary to decrease the excitation force to a min., for instance with extremely accurate balancing
